I applied for a job, a somewhat important job.
As an Operations Specialist (OS) on the Watch, you will perform a
wide range of day-to-day duties. Specifically, you will analyze
press reports and other information received from a variety of sources;
collect, monitor, and report orally and in writing on news and other
items of importance (e.g., situations affecting U.S. citizens and
interests abroad); alert senior level officials orally and in
writing on new, changing and/or breaking developments; draft and/or assist
others in developing briefing materials involving a range of topics
(e.g., foreign affairs, human rights, terrorism).
Operations Specialists also serve as point persons on calls received
from U.S. missions and consulates overseas on breaking events and
crisis situations; brief senior and other officials internal and
external to the agency on these events; draft and/or relay messages
to overseas posts, ensuring accuracy of the data communicated;
coordinate and disseminate time-sensitive information to Department
principals and internal and external agency sources; liaise with
internal and external agency representatives (e.g., National
Security Council, CIA, etc.), ensuring that each is kept abreast of important
developments.
You provide a wide range of technical support, troubleshooting
problems with equipment (e.g., phone consoles, fax and switching
equipment) and devising creative solutions when equipment fails,
ensuring the continued and timely flow of information. In addition,
you provide preliminary technical support to task forces or
monitoring groups convened in crisis situations, preparing
dispatches and urgent messages to posts abroad during the crisis, always using
tact, diplomacy, and polished customer service skills in
communicating with individuals.
